How to set up a Home Network:
Each computer on your network must be in the same Workgroup and
connected to the same Router (DSL, Cable, Wireless, etc.):
1. Right Click on My Computer, Left click on Properties.
2. Select the Computer Name Tab
3. Select the Change Button.
4. Computer Name - Each Computer in the workgroup must be a
different name.
5. Workgroup Name - Rename the Workgroup to the desired name.
6. All Computers in the Workgroup (network) must be the SAME
Workgroup name.
7. Your Network is now configured and ready to share printers and
files.How to share a printer:
Start with the computer that the printer is attached:
1. Go to Control Panel (Switch to Classic View if selection is
showing in left panel).
2. Select Printers and Faxes.
3. Right Click on the printer that you wish to share.
4. Left click on sharing.
5. Select Share this printer and type in a name you will recognize
and be easy to use on the other computer(s).
6. Select Okay.
Go to the Computer that needs to access this printer
1. Go to Control Panel (Switch to Classic View if selection is
showing in left panel).
2. Select Printers and Faxes.
3. Select Add Printer
4. Select Next in the Add Printer Wizard.
5. Select - A network printer, or a printer attached to another
computer. Then select Next.
6. Select Connect to this printer (or to browse for a printer,
select this option and click next). (No need to type in any name,
etc.)
7. Select Next
8. If your printer is not showing, double click on the name of the
computer that the printer is attached.
9. Click once on the shared printer name and select next.
10. Select whether you want this as the default printer and click
Next.
11. If prompted to automatically install printer, select yes.
12. Printer is now ready to print.
How to share Files and Folders:
Start with the computer where the files reside:
1. Right Click on My Computer.
2. Select Explore.
3. Navigate to the Folder that you wish to share with another
computer. (It is not a good idea to share the entire C:\Drive)
4. Right Click on the Folder that you wish to share.
5. Left Click on Sharing.
6. Select Share this folder.
7. Type in a name of your choice or accept the default.
8. Select Okay
Go to the computer that needs to access these files:
1. Right Click on My Computer.
2. Select Explore.
3. Click the Plus(+) sign next to My Network Places.
4. Click the Plus(+) sign next to Entire Network.
5. Click the Plus(+) sign next to Microsoft Network.
6. Click the Plus(+) sign next to your workgroup name.
7. Click the Plus(+) sign next to the computer name of the computer
that you want to access. (This may take a minute or two)
8. Right click on the folder that you shared.
9. Select Map Network Drive.
10. Select a Drive letter and select Okay.
11. Close all windows.
12. Open My Computer and you will see your Network Drive with the
shared files. |
